by Nicholas Desrosiers

HENDERSON, Nevada -- North America’s newest Professional Independent Baseball league today announced its month-long inaugural Winter Instructional League as the Winter Warmup.  Accommodating as many as 250 highly gifted baseball players, the Western Association of Professional Baseball will host players from North America, the Caribbean, South America, and the Orient. The instructional league will feature coaches with Major League Baseball and both affiliated and independent professional baseball experience. This new immersive experience will be located in the southern Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, Nevada.

Players will be guaranteed a season featuring a minimum of 20 games plus playoffs from February 7, 2022, through March 5, 2022, with multiple games per day at either Heritage Park or Burkholder Park in Henderson.

The Western Association of Professional Baseball will launch an eight-team, 78-game schedule for its inaugural season set to kick off in June of 2022 with Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, and Texas teams.

Players will be provided with instruction and evaluation by experienced professional coaches, agents, and talent evaluators, lodging in high-quality hotels near the program's ballparks, meals, transportation to and from games, and daily individual practice for infielders, outfielders, pitchers, and catchers.   The Winter Warmup will provide uniforms and hats. Each player can also obtain a professionally produced player evaluation and scouting video to send to potential Independent and international field and general managers.

Guest instructors will be featured for clinics specializing in hitting, fielding, base running, base stealing, and situational play. Camp participants will also receive advice from experts on dealing with the media like a pro and social media awareness.

Professional umpires will be provided for all games.

Undrafted NCAA and junior players are welcome as well as players released by MLB clubs or their Minor League affiliates. The camp will be led on-field by former MLB All-star and San Diego Padre Hall of Famer, Gary Templeton; former minor leaguer and Arizona Winter League coach and owner of  The Cool Breeze Baseball Academy in Lakeland,  Florida, Benny Castillo; former Baseball America Player of the Year, Mexican League Hall of Famer and current Cincinnati Reds AAA hitting coach Darryl Brinkley; and 30-Year MLB Player Development Specialist and Coach for the Detroit Tigers organization, Basilio Cabrera.
